What's copywriting?
Copywriting is marketing communications: using your writing skills to inform and persuade. Copywriters write advertising and much more. For example, as a skilled copywriter, you may write anything from complete Web sites and product manuals, to one-line slogans and taglines, and tiny Pay Per Click (PPC) and classified ads.
A copywriter's work is never done: every business of any size can become your client, and that business may be located anywhere in the world. Today you may write a brochure for a client in London, tomorrow you may write a Web sales page for a client in Spain.
You can become a copywriter now: how to get started
To become a copywriter, you need just one thing: the desire to write copy. There are few requirements except a willingness to learn - your clients don't care about your educational level, your age, or your gender. They care about results.
Many business people become copywriters by default, as I did. I wrote press releases and innovative advertising for a business I was running, then was asked to write ads and news releases by other business people. I gradually built up a stable of clients. My copywriting mushroomed over time. In the past 20 years I've written copy for clients across the world; for tiny five-person businesses as well as corporate clients like hp.
In copywriting, one client leads to another, and another, and before you know it, you're booked solid. Your clients are faithful too: they'll send you business year after year.
